SC Misses Federal Aid For The Unemployed
Thousands of South Carolina’s unemployed will miss out on additional benefits after state officials failed to take the steps necessary to secure them. Unemployed residents could have received an additional seven weeks of emergency benefits, from federal stimulus money, if lawmakers had passed a law to temporarily change the index used to count the number of people out of work. President of Denmark Technical College Suspended After Audit
The president of a South Carolina technical college has been suspended after an audit. ‘The Times and Democrat’ of Orangeburg reported Tuesday that Denmark Technical College President Dr. John K. Waddell has been suspended without pay.

Legislative Delegation Appoints Augusta Coliseum Authority Chairman
In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, on Wednesday, the Augusta-Richmond County Legislative Delegation announced the appointment of Cedric Johnson as the new Chairman of the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority. In accordance with House Bill 813, Mr. Johnson will serve as Chairperson of the restructured seven member Coliseum Authority.

SC Legislators OK Cuts To Local Government Aid
A $50 million reduction in state funding to local governments has won key approval by legislators working on the state’s budget. The Senate gave the bill tentative approval on a 23-19 vote Thursday before starting debate on the $5.7 billion state budget because it affects that spending plan.

Plan Forcing Governor Sanford’s Hand On Stimulus Hits Delay
Plans to force Gov. Mark Sanford to seek $350 million in federal stimulus cash have hit an expected delay. Camden Sen. Vincent Sheheen introduced a resolution Tuesday that would require Sanford to seek the federal funding. Sanford has said he would refuse the money unless it can be used to reduce state debt. The White House won’t allow him to do that.

Bill Overhauling SC Employment Security Gets Hearing
A bill that would put control of the Employment Security Commission in Gov. Mark Sanford’s hands is up for debate. Senate Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee Chairman Greg Ryberg has introduced a bill that creates a Workforce Department out of the commission and makes it part of the governor’s Cabinet. He’s scheduled a hearing on the bill Wednesday.
