North Augusta police arrest carjacking suspect

North Augusta Public Safety officers have arrested a suspect in last week’s carjacking.  Anthony Tashawn Perry was arrested at his home Sunday night.

According to Lt. Tim Pearson, the North Augusta Department of Public Safety (NADPS) is currently looking for a carjacking suspect. The suspect is identified as Anthony Tashawn Perry.

UPDATED: Third Suspect Arrested In Aiken Burger King Robbery

According to Lt. David Turno, Aiken Department of Public Safety Officers responded to an armed robbery about 12:45 p.m., on Saturday, at the Burger King, located on York Street, in Aiken. UPDATE: The fatality from the Burger King robbery has been identified as Richard Lee Simmons, 24, of Columbia, SC. UPDATE: Investigators have charged both Robert Mills, Jr. and Sean Mark Rodriguez with one count of Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime, one count of Robbery while Armed with a Deadly Weapon and 16 counts of Kidnapping. Both are being held at the Aiken County Detention Center. UPDATE: Toryast Jermaine Johnson, 28, of Columbia, SC has been arrested in connection to the robbery.

Former boxing champion and U.S. Olympian Vernon Forrest was shot and killed in an attempted carjacking in Northwest Atlanta, a police spokesperson said. Lt. Keith Meadows with the Atlanta police department told WSB Radio, the Augusta native was putting air in the tires of his Jaguar around 11 p.m. Saturday at a gas station on White Hall St. at McDaniel Blvd. Investigators said at least two men jumped out of a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo and tried to steal Forrest’s car. The boxer had a gun and started running after the suspects. WJBF News Channel 6’s Chris Kane spoke to one of Vernon’s brothers, and others, including managers and trainers.
