Community Shows Support To 7-Year-Old With Leukemia
It’s a struggle for any family who has a family member diagnosed with cancer…but what about when they are only 7-years-old? Brennan Simkins is battling leukemia and just started some more chemo treatment, Wednesday. Study Says Pregnancy Doesn’t Worsen Breast Cancer
Does breast cancer hit pregnant women harder than other women in the same age group? A new study at the Anderson Cancer Center in Houston followed just over 100 women spread out over more than 30 years, all of whom had cancer either during or just after pregnancy.

An update to a story we brought you several weeks ago. 23-year-old Karen Flores was diagnosed with cancer, a month ago, and it has since spread throughout her body. During that time, her parents have been fighting for a visa to come to the states from Honduras, but were denied twice because they couldn’t tell immigration when they would return. Well, things have changed. And, on Christmas day, Karen got the best gift she could have ever asked for. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.

Why is SC Worst in Smoking Prevention?
Thursday was The Great American Smokeout, an annual focus to get smokers to quit, at least for 24 hours. As that was happening, a recent report ranks South Carolina worst in the nation at spending tobacco settlement money on smoking prevention and cessation programs. The Campaign for Smoke-Free Kids report says South Carolina will generate $114 million from the tobacco settlement and cigarette taxes this year, but will spend just $1 million of federal money, and no state money, on prevention programs. WJBF News Channel 6’s Capitol reporter, Robert Kitle, has the story.
