A deadly accident this week in Edgefield has city leaders taking up the challenge to do something about a low bridge. Although signs warn truck drivers to go around the 13-foot bridge, Edgefield leaders say it’s obvious, with the number of accidents they have, the signs are either missed, or ignored. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

That huge generator that is slowly making its way across South Carolina, is finally moving again, out of Aiken.

The body of a South Carolina author whose books profiled some of the state’s most infamous murders has been found in a river. The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Sunday that the body of 56-year-old Dale Hudson was found by two fishermen Saturday around 8:30 p.m. in the Pee Dee River two miles south of the U.S. 76 bridge. Hudson had been reported missing on Friday.

There’s a draining problem for some Edgefield County residents. It’s been four months since ‘road closed’ signs went up on Holmes Pond Road…and so far, there’s been no repairs done. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe looks for answers as to why the road has not been repaired.

A body has been discovered in the Augusta Canal. Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigators were called out Wednesday morning to the Enterprise Mill, just off of the 15th Street bridge, near Greene Street. The body has been indentified as 50-year-old Herman Johnson.

The swing bridge linking South Carolina’s Sullivans Island to the mainland is stuck open blocking traffic. The Post and Courier of Charleston and the Sullivans Island town web site report electrical problems left the Ben Sawyer Bridge open Monday.

Columbia County, in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Transportation, wishes to inform the driving public of an update concerning the unscheduled road closure for all thru traffic on Baker Place Road. The road closure will prevent any thru traffic from heading any further north or south along Baker Place Road, at the bridge over Interstate 20. Local traffic may still access Baker Place Road, from either end, but will not be able to continue past the overpass.

In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, Team United, the contractor constructing phase 2 of the Palmetto Parkway (I-520) in North Augusta, is proceeding with the replacement of U.S. Highway 25 bridge over I-20 at exit 5. The contractor will be setting the new beams across westbound I-20 the week of June 8th. This work will be done at night and will require closing a section of I-20.

The signs say “road closed”...but that doesn’t stop drivers from using Gray Mare Hollow Road, in Aiken. They say, after 14 months of construction, it’s time to move along. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.

A judge has sentenced an Alabama man to death for killing four young children by tossing them from a bridge. Circuit Judge Charles Graddick handed down the death sentence Thursday to Lam Luong.

Tuesday, the body of an Augusta homeless man was found beneath a bridge over the Augusta Canal, near downtown. He had been killed by a blow to the head, and it was considered a murder. For those living on the streets, life is already tough. Now, they face the murder of a person who shares their plight. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has more.

According to Mark Bowen, Chief Deputy Richmond County Coroner, a body found under the Riverwatch Parkway bridge, near 15th Street, has been identified.

Georgia is looking at billions from the Stimulus plan, with more than $1 billion of that for road and bridge work and repair. Augusta has millions in bridge work needs, but city leaders say, when it comes to funding, they’ll cross that bridge when they get to it. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has more.

Federal safety investigators say serious design errors in steel plates connecting beams in a Minneapolis bridge were a factor in the bridge’s deadly collapse last year.

An 18-wheeler is blamed for a traffic tie up on Highway 21, in Bamberg, Monday afternoon. It happened around noon, near the intersection of Highway 61.
