UGA Shootings Draw Attention To Domestic Violence
An Athens-based agency that helps battered women says a University of Georgia professor’s April 25 shooting of his wife, two others and himself has increased the number of women reaching out for help. Project Safe’s hotlines received about 116 calls a month in 2008 and through this April.

Coroner: No Sign Of Foul Play In Death Of SC Woman
Authorities say an autopsy report shows no sign of foul play in the death of a South Carolina woman who was missing for about 2 weeks. The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported Tuesday that authorities are waiting for the results of a toxicology report to determine how 48-year-old Julia Ann Vess of Simpsonville might have died. She was last seen May 17. Her body was identified Monday.
Judge Denies Bond In Augusta Fatal Stabbings
A judge has denied bond for 52-year-old Joshua Ferguson of Augusta, who is accused of stabbing two men to death.

Police Documents: George Zinkhan Knew Of Wife’s Affair
Documents from a police investigation into the former University of Georgia professor who fatally shot his wife and two others show he had secretly recorded a conversation between he and his wife about her affair with one of the men killed.

WJBF EXCLUSIVE: Lakeside High School Student Dies Day After Graduation
18-year-old Melanie Garrison accepted her diploma, Saturday afternoon, at Lakeside High School’s graduation. Sunday evening, she was pronounced dead at Doctors Hospital. The coroner says the cause of her death is undetermined. Her body was sent to the crime lab for an autopsy. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford for the story.

Search Continues For Teen Swimmer At Myrtle Beach
Authorities are still searching for a 16-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming at Myrtle Beach. Capt. David Knipes of the Myrtle Beach Police Department said Monday that the whole department remains on the lookout. The teenager from Conway was about 50 yards out in the water Sunday when one of his friends heard him call for help before disappearing. Authorities declined to release the boy’s name because he is a juvenile.

UPDATED: One Man In Custody In Connection With South Augusta Double Murder
We have the latest in the investigation of a double murder that occurred Wednesday, in south Augusta. The bodies of 27-year-old Rodney Antrone Crane and 42-year-old Jesse Albert Haynes were found Wednesday morning at the Glenwood II Apartment Complex, on Lumpkin Road. Each had been stabbed at least once. One man, Joshua Bernard Ferguson, 52, is being questioned in the case. He was taken into custody after a standoff with police. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud filed a report from the scene.

Aiken Shooting Death Autopsy Results Released
According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, preliminary findings on the shooting death of John H. Anthony, 57, from Aiken County, revealed that Mr. Anthony died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

George Zinkhan’s Family Has Yet To Claim His Body
The family of the former University of Georgia professor accused of fatally shooting his wife and two others hasn’t claimed his body. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said George Zinkhan’s body is in a cooler at the agency’s medical examiner’s office in Decatur.

Man Dies Of Heart Attack, Wife Injued in Wreck
According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, an early morning traffic crash in Aiken County was determined to be caused by a sudden cardiac event. Michael Jones, 61, was traveling north on Hitchcock Parkway in Aiken, at approximately 6:45 a.m., when he suffered a cardiac arrest, crossed the southbound lane, left the roadway and went about 100 feet into the woods. He was driving a 1997 Lincoln Towncar.

According to Captain Steve Morris, with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a 46-year-old inmate was found dead around 6:00 a.m., Thursday morning, as detention officers were serving breakfast.

UPDATED: Body Found Tuesday In Windsor, SC
According to Captain Troy Elwell, with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), a body was found Tuesday afternoon in Windsor, SC. The body was found around 6:00 p.m. on the 50 block of Stillwater Road. An autopsy was performed Wednesday morning, in Newberry. Identification of the body is still pending.

Missing SC Woman Found Dead Of Gunshot To Chest
A South Carolina woman missing since last week has been found dead from a gunshot wound. Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kylie Strange says an autopsy is being conducted Tuesday on 31-year-old Talibah Lanease Allen.
