Merry Outburst Deemed No Crime

The State Court looked into whether Woody Merry’s refusal to stop talking at a city budget hearing violated a court order signed last year saying Merry would not disrupt any public meetings. Solicitor Harold Jones says Merry’s actions we’re questionable but not criminal but Merry feels he’s the one who’s been mistreated. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Did Woody Merry Violate Terms Of Court Order?

It’s something the state court solicitor says he’s looking into. We’re talking about Woody Merry’s appearence at Thursday’s Augusta Commission budget hearing. Merry was talking budget, but when his 4-minute time limit was up, he did not want to give it up. Merry is under a court order to not disrupt a public meeting in Augusta and Richmond County for one year, but Thursday’s outburst was two weeks shy of one year.

Richmond County School Superintendent Makes Statement about Joe Scott’s Death

Richmond County School Board member Joe Scott died in his sleep, Friday night. His colleagues say his death was unexpected and shocking. Superintendent Dr. Dana Bedden released a statement regarding Scott’s death.

Richmond County School Board Member Joe Scott Dies

WJBF has confirmed that longtime local educator and school board member Joe Scott died in his sleep Friday night.  Scott represented district five on the board.  It is believed that Mr. Scott died of natural causes.  He was 72.

Legislative Delegation Appoints Augusta Coliseum Authority Chairman

In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, on Wednesday, the Augusta-Richmond County Legislative Delegation announced the appointment of Cedric Johnson as the new Chairman of the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority. In accordance with House Bill 813, Mr. Johnson will serve as Chairperson of the restructured seven member Coliseum Authority.

The seat stays empty….as Augusta’s state lawmakers fail to name the top seat on the new Augusta Coliseum Authority. The legislative delegation met Tuesday morning to appoint the chairperson of the new James Brown Arena board.
