Aqueduct Park: More People Add Up To More Problems

Last year, volunteers polished a jewel, removing tons of trash from Aqueduct Park. With summer here, more and more people are using the site, off the Augusta Canal to cool off, but more people bring more problems with the city searching for a way to handle them. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Getting Back To Normal On The Augusta Canal

The water is filling its banks, so things are springing back to life on the Augusta Canal. With the historic waterway being refilled the canal’s tour boats are being taken out of dry dock and are back in the water. And the parts of the canal off limits to the public for the past 14 weeks will be opening up, as well. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Missing The Boat On The Augusta Canal

To get the Petersburg Boats back in service, Augusta Canal officials were banking on getting the historic waterway’s banks filled by the First of May. The plan was to open the floodgates, Thursday, but another delay means the boats stay high and dry. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Activist Group Complains About Draining Of The Augusta Canal

The city’s plan to drain the Augusta Canal for its Water Works project is set to begin in a few days, but one activist group says…not so fast. They’re looking for answers before the water is let out. The group is the Fair Government Association, and their concern is about the channels the city went through to get permission for the project, and also how the drain will affect wildlife. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker has more.

Augusta Canal To Be Drained For Construction

The Augusta Canal’s main purpose is to provide water for the city and generate hydropower. But with recreational use being a very close third, the Augusta Canal Authority says it’s glad an upcoming closing is temporary and during winter. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker reports.

Augusta Canal Work Will Close Parts To Public

It’s a work to upgrade the city water system. The city is putting new pumps in at the pumping station, but to complete the work, the canal will be drained. But with the water down, the city plans to build up the canal.
