Graniteville Tragedy…5 Years Later
Tuesday, January 6, 2010 marks the 5-year anniversary of the tragic train wreck and chlorine spill that killed 9 people in Graniteville, injured several others, and displaced many residents. We are taking a look back on the events of that fateful day on January 6, 2005 as captured by WJBF News Channel 6 cameras and news crews. UPDATE: It’s hard to believe it is the fifth anniversary of that deadly train accident that killed nine people, in Graniteville, SC and impacted thousands of others. Graniteville is a community that’s still trying to pick itself back up. The fire chief here said the actual incident lasted a few weeks, but things are still not back to what they were here, years later. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

South Of The Border Marks 60 Years In Business
An icon for Interstate 95 motorists is celebrating a milestone, but it’s also facing challenges from competitors and a need to make upgrades and improvements. ‘The Morning News of Florence’ reports that South of the Border has remained a roadside attraction for 60 years. It features more than a dozen shops, six restaurants, a small amusement park and a motel with 300 rooms.

Aiken Man Honored As “Hero”, Over 50 Years Later
This Sunday, two people will be honored for their heroic actions, more than five decades ago. In 1953, a gas explosion forever changed the face of downtown Aiken. Ten people were killed, but some were saved, thanks to a few brave men. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

It’s the 20th anniversary of the worst natural disaster in modern times in South Carolina. Hurricane Hugo, a Category 4 storm, smashed ashore at Charleston with its 135 mph winds 20 years ago on Monday.
