Aiken Man Honored As “Hero”, Over 50 Years Later

This Sunday, two people will be honored for their heroic actions, more than five decades ago. In 1953, a gas explosion forever changed the face of downtown Aiken. Ten people were killed, but some were saved, thanks to a few brave men. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

Staff members at Doctors Hospital in Columbus are still coping one year after a gunman killed a patient and two employees. Charles Johnston is accused of entering the hospital on March 27, 2008 and killing administrative assistant Leslie Harris, nurse Pete Wright and patient James David Baker.

SC Lawmaker Wants New Orangeburg Massacre Probe

The son of a man shot and wounded in the Orangeburg Massacre says he will again file a bill to reopen the investigation into the killings. The 41st anniversary of the event was commemorated Sunday. Three people were killed and 27 injured on the campus of South Carolina State University when state troopers and other officers fired on a civil rights protest.
