Augusta, GA—Jim Martin made a two day stop in the Garden City. His main focus, veterans and unions. Sunday we met up with him during one of his round table meetings…
It was a chance to bring their concerns right to the table.
Jim Martin, Georgia Democratic Senate Candidate: “I’m meeting with veterans today to reassure them that when I’m elected United States Senator I’m going to work for veterans and make sure they’re taken care of.”
The room was packed Sunday afternoon, as Jim Martin wrapped up his weekend rally in Augusta at the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union 150.
Martin: “The issue is clear. Do Georgians want a senator who’s going to go to Washington to try to deal with these difficult problems that we face to try and getting our economy rolling again and to stand up for middle class Georgians or to continue the course.”
Continuing the course is what the Democrats don’t want. And a win for Martin could make him the 60th Democrat in the U.S. Senate, giving their party complete control.
Martin: “I really don’t have a strong opinion about that one way or the other I want to go to the United States Senate to represent Georgia. And whether I’m the 50th vote or the 60th vote or the 1st vote, it doesn’t really matter. I’m going to represent Georgia and work with the new president to try and get this economy moving again.
Something he says his opponent, current Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss, wouldn’t do. Including helping veterans like himself.
Martin: “Saxby voted against increasing healthcare benefits for veterans 23 times while he’s been in the United States senate. I won’t do that, I’ll try and stand up for veterans to make sure we give them the respect and services that they’re entitled to.
In the end it all comes down to the voters…something Martin and his campaign have no doubt in.
Martin: “We believe we’re going to win. We sure do!”
Martin’s campaign will be in full swing the rest of this week. Sunday evening they were headed to Athens, later they would be holding a rally with Al Gore in Atlanta.
The runoff will be next Tuesday, December 2nd.
