Augusta, GA—Two children are dead and two more hospitalized along with their mother in Augusta, after a house fire in Greenwood County, South Carolina…

Firefighters say the home was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene, Saturday afternoon.

The mother, Crystal Reed, made it out of the home with her infant daughter, but her three other children were still inside. Firefighters found her four-year-old daughter in one bedroom, and two sons in another.

Twelve-year-old Jarod Reed was unconscious when they pulled him from the burning room. A younger brother and sister…4-year-old Alisha Makins and 3-year-old Arian Makins were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors say they tried to rescue the children when they heard the mother scream…but couldn’t get inside the home.

Tyla Vanderhorst, neighbor: “By the time we got to the front of the house, then we got front of the house, the smoke, the windows were about to go and there was no way we could get in. All we could do is wait for the fire department.“

The 12-year-old and a 5-month-old infant were airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, along with their mother. All have life- threatening injuries.

At last check, the 3 were still in critical condition.

SLED is investigating, but so far, they’re unsure what caused the fire. Investigators say the home did not have smoke detectors.
