Greenville, SC—According to our sister station in Spartanburg, WSPA News Channel 7 Sports Director Pete Yanity confirms with a Clemson Athletic Department official that Tommy Bowden stepped down as Clemson’s head Coach.

TigerIllustrated.com is reporting Tommy Bowden has been relieved of his duties as Clemson’s head coach.  TigerIllustrated.com says Tiger Assistant Head Coach and Wide Receivers Coach Dabo Swinney has been promoted as interim head coach.

AP Update:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Tommy Bowden is out as Clemson’s football coach.

An athletic department official says Bowden has stepped down, with the team 3-3 and just off a 12-7 loss to Wake Forest. Bowden is in his 10th season at Clemson.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press on Monday because an announcement has not been made.

Clemson started the season ranked No. 9 and was picked to win the conference.

Neither Bowden nor athletic director Terry Don Phillips immediately returned calls. The school said it would hold a news conference Monday evening.

We will have that press conference streaming live on WJBF.com. The press conference is tentatively scheduled to be held at 5:15 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney will take over as interim head coach through the remainder of the season.
