CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham says an innovative port security program that grew out of the 9/11 terror attacks will continue, thanks to a federal grant.
Graham was joined Friday by state Law Enforcement Division director Reggie Lloyd and other officials in announcing Operation SeaHawk will continue.
He credited Lloyd with securing an $800,000 federal grant to pay the salaries of local and state agents involved in the project.
SeaHawk was created in 2003. It brings together representatives of state, federal and local law enforcement who meet daily in a command center to share and compare information on activity in Charleston Harbor.
The program moved from the Department of Justice to the Department of Homeland Security on October 1st.
