CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is helping organizing a blood drive in memory of those killed in accidents on the state’s highways.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is one of several groups hosting a blood drive in Charleston on Friday.
Organizers say this year’s blood drive is in memory of 21-year-old Jacob Wright. Wright was killed in a collision near his home in Colleton County in January.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says about 1,000 people are killed on the state’s highways each year. So far this year, nearly 400 drivers, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists have been killed in highway accidents.
