Graniteville, SC—It’s another blow for Avondale Mills water customers. The South Carolina Supreme Court has lifted an injunction put into place by the Circuit Court. The injunction said customers couldn’t be charged the new water rates until they were given notice.
In June, the South Carolina Public Service Commission approved a rate hike for the water company, Avondale Mills, but residents say they did not recieve proper notice.
State Senator Shane Massey stepped in and tried to stop the rate hike.
Massey expects that avondale mills will send out notices to the residents to pay their June water bills…
Sen. Shane Massey, (R) Aiken, SC: “We have asked the Public Service Commission to grant something like a injunction, basically not allowing Avondale to charge the July bills at the new rates because the customers didn’t know the rates were going up for those July bills, and that’s what this injunction is all about…“
Valley Public Service Authority is neogitating to take over from avondale and there will be a meeting next week about moving forward on that issue.
