South Carolina kicked off a new service Friday. It’s aimed at preventing senior citizens and anyone else from being ripped off. It’s called “Senior Shield”. It’s a website and a toll-free phone number. Businesses pay a fee to go through checks to make sure they’re licensed and insured. And users can also see whether or not complaints have been filed against them. There are also background checks on employees that go into people’s homes.

Columbia, SC—It’s aimed at preventing senior citizens, and anyone else, from being ripped off.
It’s called Senior Shield, and businesses pay a fee to go through background checks to make sure they’re licensed and insured, and to see whether they have complaints against them. The service also does background checks on employees who go into people’s homes.
Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, (R) South Carolina: “These businesses are going to be shining examples of the kind of people that we want to do business with. Not just seniors, but everybody. But especially seniors that can do their due diligence to make sure they know about what type of person is coming into their home.“
The website also has a page for seniors to print and hand to anyone wanting to do business with them asking: “have you earned your senior shield.” The toll-free number for those without a computer is 1-877-723-3771.
Here’s the website:
