DILLON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina wants highway travelers coming through the state to know it was once home to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.
The state Department of Transportation announced Monday that an interchange on Interstate 95 would be named for the native of rural Dillon, less than 10 miles from the North Carolina border.
State lawmakers passed a concurrent resolution honoring Bernanke. A dedication ceremony will be held Saturday.
Bernanke took over the Federal Reserve in 2006, succeeding longtime chairman Alan Greenspan. He previously served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve since 2002.
