The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) says wet weather and inattentive drivers caused 42 vehicles to crash in 11 separate accidents on I-26, injuring 16 people.

Charleston, SC—The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) says wet weather and inattentive drivers caused 42 vehicles to crash in 11 separate accidents on I-26, injuring 16 people.
The accidents closed the westbound lane near mile marker 199 for nearly four hours Monday during rush hour traffic. How do you stay safe on the road during wet weather conditions? WCBD-News 2 rode along with driving experts to find out.
Authorities say it’s common to see an increase of accidents during rainy weather. Rob Grimsley is a law enforcement officer. He’s also a driving instructor for 911 Driving School. He says drivers should increase their defensive driving skills so they will no how to drive in inclement weather. Grimsley says drivers should know that they have to change the way they drive in certain weather conditions, by decreasing speed, and following distance for starters.
SCHP says the crashes are still open investigations to determine driver information and other information.
