Aiken, SC—A candidate throwing his hat in the ring for the South Carolina Attorney General’s position stopped in Aiken Thursday.
Alan Wilson is running on the Republican ticket for the seat currently held by Henry McMaster.
Wilson is a member of the National Guard and served overseas, he’s a former assistant solicitor, and former state assistant attorney general.
Wilson: “One of the things I would like to do, as an Attorney General, is work with local law enforcement to train police officers that have to go into the courtroom as a prosecutor or as a witness in a felony charge, and teach, help them, because they are on the from lines fighting crime everyday, but they’re not in the courtroom everyday, and I would like to give them the information to effectively, efficiently be an advocate for the state in the courtroom.”
He’s the son of Congressman Joe Wilson. You may remember his father from being in the spotlight back in September, after a public outburst in the middle of the President’s address on health care reform. Wilson says the incident doesn’t affect his run, which he announced before the outburst.
Wilson: “I’m glad that he apologized, I’m happy that the President accepted it, and now that issue should be dead. The issue should be about health care reform, and how it’s going to affect the people of this country, as well as the people of this community.“
The primary for the election will be in June.
