Police: NC Man Drags SC Officer During Stop

MYRTLE BEACH - A North Carolina man accused of dragging a Myrtle Beach Police officer nearly two city blocks on Wednesday now faces additional charges.

Clark Tuttle, 25, of Lenoir, N.C., faces ten counts of assault with intent to kill, a one count each of assault and battery with intent to kill, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence and having an open container.

According a a spokesperson for the Myrtle Beach City jail, a judge set bail Friday for Tuttle at $66,259 for all of the charges.

Police Department spokesman Capt. David Knipes says Officer Tony Allen pulled Tuttle over for a “drinking offense” around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night.

Knipes said the man started driving while Allen was standing next to his truck, driving south, and dragging the officer from 11th Ave. N. Ocean Blvd., to 9th Ave. N. Ocean Boulevard when the man’s truck collided with four other vehicles.

Doctors treated Allen for minor injuries at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Lenior, N.C., man faces 10 counts of assault with intent to kill after dragging a Myrtle Beach police officer during a traffic stop and ramming into other cars to try and get him to let go.

Jail records show 25-year-old Clark Tuttle remains at the Horry County jail Saturday.

Police told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that an officer pulled over Tuttle on Ocean Boulevard on Wednesday.

Authorities say Tuttle drove off with the officer still holding the driver’s side door, then rammed four other vehicles, trying to get him away from the car.

Police say they had to shoot Tuttle with a Taser to subdue him. Tuttle says his son is a college student who has never been in trouble before.
