Pedestrian Hit And Killed In Aiken County
According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, at approximately 11:43 p.m. on May 22, 2009 a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 25 north and Sweetwater Road, in Aiken County.
Aiken, SC—According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, at approximately 11:43 p.m. on May 22, 2009 a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 25 north and Sweetwater Road, in Aiken County.
Cathy Barnes, 51, of Graniteville SC was pronounced dead at the scene of this collision. The circumstances surrounding her death are currently under investigation by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Barnes was struck by a late model Ford Explorer driven by John Whisnant, of Trenton, SC who was traveling north on Highway 25.
Whisnant will not be charged in this crash and was not at fault.
Barnes may have been intoxicated at the time. Toxicology is pending.
This is the 12th fatal crash in Aiken County in 2009. Completion of the investigation Tuesday (May 26,2009), along with autopsy findings revealed that this death will be ruled as accidental. The Cause of death is multiple body trauma.
