UPDATED: One Person Killed In Aiken County Accident On Highway 1

Aiken, SC—According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Sylvester Morris, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of a 5:58 a.m. crash near Batesburg, SC.

Morris was traveling north on Highway 1 in Aiken County, South Carolina on a 2008 Yamaha moped when he ran into the driver side door of a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Elizabeth Turner, of Batesburg, SC.

Turner was attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 1 from Chinquapin Church Road when the collision occurred. Morris was then struck by a north bound 2004 Volvo tractor trailer driven by Lowell Holloway, of Leesville, SC.

It appears Turner failed to yield right of way, however, the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and Aiken County Coroner’s Office is conducting the death investigation.

Morris died from multiple body trauma.

This is the 6th fatal crash in Aiken County in 2009.
