Even though he reached the end of the road, a local man decided to stay in his car. Lonnie Holloway was buried in Saluda, South Carolina on Tuesday inside one of his most prized possessions: a 1973 Pontiac Catalina. Holloway, who was born in 1918, asked that his rifles and handguns also be be buried with him. He spend 32 years working for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Saluda County, SC—A Saluda County man’s final resting place turned out to be…his car. And now, he’s reached the end of the road.
Lonnie Holloway was buried Tuesday at the wheel of his most prized possession: a 1973 Pontiac Catalina.
Holloway was born in 1918. He asked that his rifles and handguns also be be buried with him. He spent 32 years working for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Rev. Calvin Robinson, friend: “This was Mr. Holloway. He didn’t do anything halfway. If he was going to do it, he was going to do it right or not at
all.“
Troy Robinson, reporting: “They say you can’t take it with you.“
Rev. Robinson: “You may not be able to carry it all the way, but you can take it a little ways up the road” (short laughter)
The unique burial arrangements required a crane to load the vehicle into the final resting spot.
