Clearwater, SC—It wasn’t church as usual this Sunday at Lakeside Baptist Church. The church, located along Aiken-Augusta Highway held a special service for those law enforcement personnel who lost their lives to the 911 terror attacks.
Pastor Tad Marshall, Lakeside Baptist Church: “Recognizing all the families who helped in their husband’s, or either their wives’ role.”
Several officers from across the CSRA came to pay their respects and show support to their fellow comrades. The church’s parking lot was filled with fire trucks and police cars from different agencies. The service also honored two local officers. Lieutenant Michael Frank, of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and Chief Johnnie Hamilton of the New Ellenton Police Department. Lt. Frank was killed in a car accident last year. His son says he feels honored that the county would remember his dad.
Tip Frank, Michael Frank’s son: “He did do a lot in the community. He was a big family man, community man he gave a lot back and I appreciate this that they would do this and give something back to him.”
Captain William Cook spoke on behalf of Chief Hamilton, who died in a car accident this year. Captain Cook says Hamilton helped improve the their police department.
Captain William Cook, New Ellenton Police Department: “He’s instituted that we get tasers, so we have something else to use other than weapons. Where we don’t have to shot an individual. He has a drug dog for us.”
The special service ended with a dispatch recording, giving a moment of silence to the local fallen heroes.
