A former Aiken County Councilman has filed suit against Sheriff Michael Hunt, along with some county leaders. The suit makes some serious allegations. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud to break it all down.
Aiken, SC—In an 82-page lawsuit, William Russ Ferrara says he was falsely accused of sex crimes and he’s asking for $20 million.
According to the lawsuit, the alleged crime happened around July 12th, 2006. Ferrara was the landlord of an apartment complex on Banks Mill Road. A 23-year old woman who rented one of the units accused him of improperly touching her, a few days before she was going to be evicted. This led to Ferrara being arrested.
Ferrara says it never happened.
In addition to Sheriff Hunt, the suit lists Charles Cain, who was a deputy sheriff at the time; Barbara Morgan, who was the Aiken County Solicitor; and Brenda Brisbin, who was the Assistant Aiken County Solicitor.
In the suit, Ferrara says his arrest was “one of the most shocking and alarming episodes of premeditated law enforcement and prosecutorial misconduct in Aiken County…“
Because of the accusations, Ferrara was arrested and released on bond, then placed on house arrest with a 24/7 electronic GPS monitoring device. He had to pay $500 a month, for 27 months, for the device.
He claims the assistant solicitor gave false and misleading info to the Summary Court judge.
A spokesperson for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says Sheriff Hunt does not talk about pending litigation.
