With the Memorial Day holiday underway, a Bamberg County group took advantage and held an outdoor family fest to honor some of our wounded veterans. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud for the story.
Bamberg, SC—These folks did not let the rain stop them from a good time, during this holiday weekend, and for Mark Sosevee, this was just the place to be.
Mark Sosevee, wounded Veteran: “I was wounded in Iraq when an IED exploded, and I’ve been in the Wounded Transition Battalion at Fort Gordon.”
The purpose of the Family Fest is to remember and honor wounded veterans, disabled veterans, persons with disabilities, and those who are blind.
Sosevee: “I was an explosive ordinance disposal, spent two tours in Iraq exploding IED’s, helping to keep out forces safe on the road.”
Sosevee served two tours in Iraq and will retire on Memorial Day because of his injuries from the IED blast.
Sosevee: “I took some trappings into my hand and back…about a few concussions.”
He’s now back home and spending time with his family at events like this. He says it’s great when the community can put events like this together. There was even a special guest, who literally came down from the sky. You might remember his name: Dana Bowman. Bowman is a retired Sergeant First Class who lost his legs during Army parachute training, in 1994. He attends events like this to show those with disabilities that they can achieve anything.
