BOWMAN, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a former South Carolina police chief will serve three years of probation after pleading guilty to misconduct in office.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported Thursday that 33-year-old Jason Marchant entered the guilty plea this week. The former Bowman police chief had been charged with misconduct in office and providing obscene material to minors.

Authorities say Marchant showed pornographic materials to at least three teens while serving as Bowman’s top law enforcement officer. An affidavit also stated that Marchant used his position of authority to unlawfully touch the children in a sexual manner.

A judge sentenced him to five years, which was suspended to three years of probation.
