UNDATED—There might have been a flurry of excitement in Washington, Tuesday, but many of us here at home woke up to actual flurries outside.
The snowfall caused some delays, as crews carefully monitored road conditions…checked bridge temperatures, and watched for potential slick spots.
Then, early Tuesday morning, the news came that some counties were calling off school.
Tremayne Barnes, Saluda High School student: “At 6:00, it was on the bottom of the screen that we didn’t have to go to school today, so I was excited!“
Some parents say, with the significance of the day….they might have kept kids home anyway.
Tonya Bosket, Saluda: “Well I was thinking about it…“
“It’s inauguration Day, and we’re celebrating history and I think it’s good for them to be out of school today.“
Barnes: “But we were going to watch the inauguration at school, but it’s a good thing that we can watch it at home, laid back, and relaxed and enjoy it.“
Others just took advantage of the moment, before it disappeared.
David Miles, Grovetown: “I’m from Grovetown, I’m just out enjoying my snowy day off.“
Keith Willison: “We’ve watched a little bit of the television, but got to go find the snow while it’s here.“
Tonya Bosket, Saluda: “My baby girls playing in the snow, she just went crazy, making castles, she just enjoyed it, she really did.“
So whether you braved the weather in Washington, or outdoors closer to home, this snowy day made the Inauguration Day a little more memorable.
Barnes: “Go back home, watch the inauguration, eat, and probably go back to sleep.“
Markita McGrath, Saluda HS Student: “eat a little bit, watch a little TV, then go back to sleep.“
“Lucky with the snow day! Yes ma’am “
Miles: “It’s been a lot of fun today.“
Department of Transportation crews were out Tuesday, checking on bridge temperatures and pouring salt where needed. They’re going to continue to keep an eye on the roads, and watch for slick spots throughout the night.
