Augusta, GA—A major fire swept through a West Augusta apartment complex Wednesday morning. The fire erupted at Traditions of Augusta just after 7:30 this morning. The complex is located on the 3700 block of Walton Way Extension near Scott Nixon Memorial Drive and Interstate 20.

At least 8 homes were destroyed just a week before Christmas, but no one was injured. Some of those units did appear to be occupied.

Firefighters rescued one resident from an upstairs balcony.

Traffic on Walton Way Extension was backed up for much of the morning commute, as all but one lane was blocked.

Flames swept through Traditions of Augusta shortly before 7:30 a.m., this morning.

WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud was live at tyhe scene on our noon newscast, and he spoke with Augusta Fire Department Batallion Chief Tommy Willis about the situation.
