Transit Grants Announced For Georgia

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says Georgia will receive another $11.8 million in federal stimulus funds for transit improvements.

ATLANTA (AP) - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says Georgia will receive another $11.8 million in federal stimulus funds for transit improvements.

Lahood says the Georgia Department of Transportation will receive $9.1 million to purchase 18 buses and two vans and for fare collection, facility improvements, security equipment and transit technology.

In addition, Augusta-Richmond County will get $2.8 million to purchase three buses, a van, a maintenance pickup truck, 23 bike racks, a GPS system, 10 fareboxes and to pay for preventive maintenance.

Last month, federal stimulus funds went to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and for transit improvements in Henry County.
