Augusta, GA—We have information for for those of you who use Doug Barnard Parkway to get to and from work or school…

Both northbound lanes of the parkway have been closed due to a sinkhole, north of the intersection with Bobby Jones Expressway.

Georgie DOT officials tell WJBF News Channel 6 that it could be Thursday of next week before work on the sinkhole is finished and the road is reopened. They say a large concrete sewer line, possibly installed in the 1960s, and no longer in use, was found during excavation of the sink hole. A separation and/or hole at a pipe joint, created the sinkhole.

In the meantime, they have setup a detour along Bobby Jones Expressway.
