A U.S. Senate committee may consider President Obama’s nomination of State Senator Ed Tarver to be the U.S. Attorney for eastern Georgia this week. If he’s confirmed, Governor Sonny Perdue would have to order a special election to fill Tarver’s seat at the State Capitol.
Augusta, GA—A U.S. Senate committee may consider President Obama’s nomination of State Senator Ed Tarver to be the U.S. Attorney for eastern Georgia this week.
Last month, the President nominated Tarver for the position. Tarver is an Augusta attorney.
If he’s confirmed, Governor Sonny Perdue would have to order a special election to fill Tarver’s seat at the State Capitol.
If it’s during the legislative session, he’d have to do that within ten days of the vacancy.
Lynn Bailey, Director, Richmond County Board of Elections: “I suspect a flurry of activity…depending on who may qualify for State Senate, it may set off a chain of events through next spring.“
Richmond County taxpayers would foot the bill for the special elections.
