Richmond County Murder Suspect Killed By 2 Deputies

Augusta, GA—Ronnie Strength, Richmond County Sheriff:  “They did not have to say ‘drop that knife’ because somebody’s life was in danger. And without a doubt, they took the action that they should have taken.”

Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength says veteran deputies, Sylvester Rosier and Chadwick Plueger, had no other choice but to shoot Terry Ramsey. According to a 911 call made by Ramsey’s 14-year-old son, Ramsey was holding his estranged wife, Tameka, at knifepoint, at their Metcalf Street home, in Harrisburg.

Sheriff Strength: “Both deputies fired at the suspect, hitting him in the chest and in the side. He was transported to MCG where he was pronounced dead.”

According to Strength, Ramsey had an extensive criminal record. Last year, Ramsey was indicted for the murder of Richard Paprocki, III. He was about to go on trial, but was out on bond.

Greg Leopard, represented Ramsey in bond hearing: “The charge itself, I had actually questioned, and those in the office had questioned whether or not he was actually going to be indicted for that charge. We felt like it was self defense.”

Greg Leopard represented Ramsey at his bond hearing…$50,000 is all it took to put Ramsey back on the street.

Leopard: “Obviously, if anybody could look into a crystal ball and into the future, they’re going to make different decisions. All you can look at is everything you’ve got in front of you at that moment.”

Sheriff Strength: “Well it happens, you know all of the time. This is not a first for us. And, we take it with a grain of salt, and go about and do our job, and if the courts release him, the courts release him.”

Ramsey had a history of violence with his estranged wife. According to records, in 2005, he fired a shot next to her to scare her, but she dropped the charges. The GBI has taken over the investigation.
