Augusta, GA—In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, the American Red Cross of Augusta and Augusta/CSRA Habitat for Humanity announce they are teaming up to sssist with tornado victims.
“The American Red Cross of Augusta has received many requests to help the victims of this past weekend’s tornadoes. In Project Helping Hands, the Red Cross of Augusta will be collaborating with the Augusta/CSRA Habitat for Humanity on a clean up effort this Saturday. If you would like to volunteer, please come to the American Red Cross of Augusta’s office (1322 Ellis Street, downtown Augusta) on Saturday morning, April 18, 2009 at 8:00 AM. Upon registration, the Habitat for Humanity team will direct you to a specific site to help. Please bring your tools, gloves and other safety equipment. Remember you will be working in a disaster area with lots of obstacles and debris so dress appropriately, with long pants and thick shoes…no flip flops, sandals or light weight tennis shoes.
At this time, American Red Cross of Augusta had assisted a total of 21 families, 77 people living in a three county area, for a total expenditure of $4,935.00. The assistance was for temporary shelter, food and clothing.
The American Red Cross is not a government agency and receives no federal or state funding. All funds are provided by the generosity of the community. If you would like to make a contribution to help the Augusta Red Cross provide the needed assistance for local disasters, please mail a contribution to the American Red Cross of Augusta, 1322 Ellis Street, Augusta, Georgia, 30901 or visit the web site, ARCAug.org.“
