Augusta, GA—It will soon be weekends only on the Augusta Canal.

A popular stretch of the canal path will be shut down, starting next week.

About a mile of the canal from the pumping station to I-20 will be off limits to walkers and bikers to allow for repair work on the canal walls.

The path will re-open on weekends and holidays, according to the Augusta Utilities Department.

The work is expected to take until mid-February.
