SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police say a Savannah woman killed her boyfriend with an ax, chopping him 20 times as he was lying in bed.
Savannah-Chatham County police revealed the grisly details of the July 14 slaying for the first time at a court hearing Thursday. Laura Jean Adams, 61, is charged with murder.
Detective Alex Tobar testified that police found the body of 63-year-old Ted Bala’s body at the foot of his bed with ax wounds from his head to his ankles.
Tobar said Adams told police she was tired of being abused by Bala.
Adams’ attorney, Todd Martin, said she has a history of mental illness and shows signs of being a battered woman.
A judge sent Adams’ case to the grand jury.
