ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Power Company and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation say less than 30,000 Georgians remain without power after severe thunderstorms and high winds moved through the state.

Georgia Power said Tuesday afternoon it still has 29,000 customers without electricity, 25,000 of those in the immediate Atlanta area. GEMC says about 300 customers remain without power, down 11,000 from Monday night and 41,000 at the height of the storm.

Georgia Power spokesman Jeff Wilson says about 4,000 customers in the Rome area account for the outages out of the Atlanta area. He says the company expects to have most of the power back on in the Atlanta area by midnight.

GEMC spokeswoman Terri Statham says the company expects to have the remaining outages restored sometime Tuesday.
