Despite some weather worries, the grills were hot as families got together to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday at Lock and Dam Park. Good food, fishing and some name game fun were all a part of the day. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Augusta, GA—It was a lock the Anderson family was going to have a good time this Memorial Day. They were getting together at Lock and Dam Park to enjoy each others’ company, and of course, good food.
“My family is coming from Atlanta, Georgia so they are here for the weekend so we are going to have a nice family reunion,” said Willie Anderson.
Willie was doing the cooking…so what was on the menu? “Everything,” he said with a laugh.
It seemed like Mike Johnson had everything on the grill, he was also hosting a family get together at the park. And, with the way the weather had been, he wanted to make sure he was under one of the park’s covered picnic areas.
“It’s been awfully wet this weekend, so I got me a shelter. We have a dry place to eat and enjoy our meal on Memorial Day,” said the resident of Blythe, Georgia.
The weather wasn’t rainy, but the Raneys were at Lock and Dam Park…Henry and his wife, but not cooking dinner on the grill…trying to catch it in the Savannah River.
“Well I had the day off from my job so I thought me and my wife would come out and have a little piece of mind and do a little fishing,” said Henry Raney.
The Raneys were fishing, but Henry doesn’t fret competition from his wife, when it comes to angling. “She’s just here for support because she’s scared of crickets and worms if she decides to fish I have to put on the crickets and worms for her she’s really just in the way,” he said joking.
But, what the Raney’s do catch is some good-natured ribbing this Memorial Day, and other times, as well.
His name is Henry, his wife’s name is Fonda, that’s right the Raneys, Henry and Fonda. A memorable name for any couple, even if they like fishing more than old films.
“What’s your favorite Henry Fonda movie?“ I asked Fonda. “I don’t know, he’s before my time,” she said.
‘Fail Safe’ was a great movie with Henry Fonda, and it was safe to assume Lock and Dam Park was a great place to celebrate Memorial Day, in Augusta.
