(McDuffie County, Georgia) - Despite an economic downturn across the region and the country McDuffie County is flourishing.

Mike Carrington is the Executive Director of The Development Authority.

Mike Carrington: “McDuffie County had a good 2008-2009.”

Let’s start downtown:

There’s a new CVS pharmacy going up construction workers are keeping busy, and soon, others will be working here.

Acclaim Lighting a wholesale distribution lighting center has built a 65,000 square foot building at Interstate 20 and is expected to hire another 25 people.

Amcor, a shrink wrap company, has completed a $2.2 million expansion that will bring in 50 new jobs.

The county has landed Reliant Medical. It will sell new and used MRI’s. Construction workers are putting the finishing touches on the building right now; 15 new jobs to start and 25 more to come.

And there’s more good news.

Carrington: “We also are working with some things of course I can’t go into yet. But, we’re looking at some possible expansion with another corporation and talking with another new company coming in which will possibly bring between 200 and 250 new jobs. We’re really excited.”

So what are McDuffie county leaders doing to attract and keep jobs?

Carrington: “Our city and county have gotten along and have done things together for years. We own our water sewer system together our recreation system together; our airport system together.  All these industrial parks have all the infrastructure they need to go ahead and bring them in. It’s not something we’ve got to develop.”

I am a employee of Amcor Inc. and would like to know how we are going to bring more jobs to McDuffie county when we have had our hours cut back to 16 hrs. one week and 36 hrs.the next week and are not sure how long this is going to last.I feel like they should try to keep the employees they got working full time before trying to bring new jobs in.
