Augusta, GA—Lasaundra Johnson, Holley Street homeowner: “This is wonderful, I’m enjoying every minute of it, I love it!”

For first time home buyers, Lasaundra and her husband Marvis, this Holley Street home is their dream come true.

Marvis Johnson, Holley Street homeowner: “It’s like the American dream. We’re very happy, very happy!”

And soon more homeowners will be able to experience the same thing. Thursday, the Holley Street model home was unveiled.  It’s one example of the type of government subsidized housing available with state of the art amenities and security systems.

Stanley Hawes, Laney Walker Neighborhood Association President: “It gives the people a greater sense of pride. And whenever you have home ownership, you’re contributing to the tax roll, and contributing to the upbringing of the city. As communities like this grow, cities grow.”

Reverend K.B. Martin, Antioch Ministries, Inc. President: “What we’re hoping is to revitalize this whole community around our church.”

And not just churches, but within walking distance of schools and community centers. Making for a prettier and safer community.

Reverend Martin: “It’s a process of building new homes, tearing down the dilapidated homes, and then helping those homeowners to be able to rehab their homes.”

For Holley Street, in particular, there will be a new cul-de-sac built behind this model home, along with 5 more houses. A journey that’s a decade in the making, but one that many are willing to wait for, to see one thing…

Lasaundra Johnson: “The whole area looking like this. This is nice, this is very nice, they fixed it up very well.”

Eventually there will be 21 homes in the Holley Street corridor. Homes that, when compared to the same type in Columbia County, are about $50,000 to $75,000 less.
