Augusta, GA—And they’re off. A quick check of the airport finds several folks taking to the skies to spend the holiday weekend with family. Augusta Regional Airport saw a steady flow of passengers.
Paul Southman, Augusta: “Going home to see my family and my fiancés family got a couple of thanksgivings to go to.”
For some folks, a simple trip to grandma’s house just won’t do.
Janice Tankersley, Aiken, SC: “We are going to meet our daughter and son-in-law and two grandchildren in the Atlanta airport then going to Rio de Janeiro.”
AAA says more people will drive this holiday weekend. Some travelers say they know why.
Janice: “Probably the add on’s the airlines are charging for all the things you what to do and the inconvenience of flying.”
Claire: “It’s probably the ease of it. Generally if you’re going for Thanksgiving you’re going for a long time alot of bags maybe you want to take a pet. So I would say getting able to bypass the hassle of security.”
Georgia’s State Patrol predicts 16-people will die on the roads during the four day thanksgiving holiday. Officer Paul Cosper says this prediction is based on weather and past statistics.
Paul Cosper, Spokesman Georgia State Patrol: “We want people to buckle up. Last year we had nineteen people during this period that were fatalities. Out of the nineteen seven of them were not wearing seat-belts.”
To make travelling less stressful airlines like Delta have constant travel updates that you can check online. And despite the unstable economy some travelers like Claire say money was not an issue this year.
Claire: “Honestly it really wasn’t because we’re going to a place that’s off the beaten path it was really easy even last minute taking the dog.”
