Martinez, GA—Ranjeet Singh is the owner of the Taj of India restaurant in Columbia County. He opened the business years after coming to Augusta from Mumbai, India. And like many across the nation, watching the gripping images from Mumbai is unbelievable.
Ranjeet Singh, Owner: “It’s so sad. If you know your enemy you can prepare yourself but when you don’t know who’s who you can not do anything.”
Singh says he got his degree from a school in Mumbai and that he worked as a chef at the Taj Mahal Hotel for three years. He says he’s been in contact with family and friends and fortunately everyone is ok.
Ranjeet Singh, Owner: “I was watching the news and they came with the planning that they wanted to kill 5,000 people.”
So far 172 people have been confirmed dead because of the terror attacks. The only surviving attacker told investigators that his group trained for about six months at camps in Pakistan. These allegations are bringing to light tensions between India and Pakistan.
Ranjeet Singh, Owner: “We have fought two, three wars with them, tension is already there.”
Singh says he wants leaders in India to enforce security policies like America.
Ranjeet Singh: “The people should feel secure safe and enjoy their day to day life you know not looking around and there’s soldiers. India is always like this, anything happens, it brings us closer.”
