ATLANTA (AP) - A judge has denied bond for a 21-year-old man accused of firing a stray bullet that killed a Spelman College student.
Devonni Benton faces multiple charges, including murder, in the death of 19-year-old Jasmine Lynn.
Police say Lynn was struck by a bullet as she walked near the Clark Atlanta campus with friends and a fight broke out nearby. Police said Lynn, from Kansas City, Mo., was struck as she was trying to avoid the gunfire.
Benton’s attorney, Jackie Patterson, acknowledges that Benton was involved in the Sept. 3 fight but says Benton, who has been held without bond in the Fulton County jail since his Oct. 6 arrest, didn’t have a gun with him.
