Augusta, GA—It’s time for the annual James Brown Turkey Giveaway.

It was the late ‘Godfather of Soul’s’ way of giving back to the community, “giving” out hundreds and hundreds of holiday birds.

The tradition lived on Monday morning at Dyess Park, in Augusta, with more than 1,000 turkeys given away.

Longtime Brown friend, Reverend Al Sharpton, was again on hand to talk turkey.

Reverend Al Sharpton: “This is what he would have wanted, especially this year, because this is a particularly tough year in the economy. Alot of people who didn’t need a turkey last year needs it this year, so I know he would be proud to see what his family is doing and I just wanted to come and help do it.“

The Brown family holiday traditions will continue next month with the annual James Brown Toy Giveaway.
