ATLANTA (AP) - A driver is facing criminal charges after he crashed into a woman’s vehicle and killed her while she was helping another motorist on a busy metro Atlanta highway.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s spokesman Jason Gagnon says Marcelino Chavez-Lopez was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving without a license and failure to maintain his lane.
Authorities say the woman was trying to help another driver who lost control of his vehicle on an elevated highway ramp north of Atlanta on Sunday when her car was rear-ended by a truck.
The collision pushed the woman over the ramp’s guard wall and sent her plummeting more than 50 feet to a highway below. The woman, who has not been named, died at the scene.
