Augusta, GA—An apologetic serenade was performed Thursday night by members of the Garden City Chorus…to a very patient lady.
So, here’s the story behind it all:
When the choir advertised for their Saturday show…apparently the number listed to call for tickets was wrong, and Mrs. Bertha Johnson’s number was given out. She says she received hundreds of calls, but everyone said she was very patient and nice. So, to thank her for her kindness…the choir went to her home Thursday evening and sang a few songs for her in her front yard.
Bertha Johnson, serenaded by choir: “When he called me and told me he wanted to come, I said, ‘you don’t have to do that,‘ and he said, ‘yeah, it’s something that they wanted to do.‘ I said, ‘oh my God, I know I’m going to be nervous.‘ I enjoyed it, I enjoyed ya’ll also. I really did, and this was a big thing for me, I never experienced this before.“
The guys made Mrs. Johnson their honorary guest for Saturday, giving her free tickets, as well as the flyer that went to 3,000 people, with her number on it.
If you want to hear more from the choir members…in lieu of the Westobou Festival…they’ll be performing this Saturday evening at the Maxwell Performing Arts Theater, on Augusta State’s Campus. The matinee starts at 2:00 p.m., and the evening show is at 6:00 p.m. For tickets, visit GardenCityChorus.org, or call the theater.
