McDuffie County Storms
A dying woman's wish is destroyed along with her home during Friday night's storms.
One of the saddest stories coming out of this storm was in Thomson, where Saturday, a dying woman’s wish was supposed to come true. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has the story.
Thomson, GA—Charles Turner, elderly mother trapped: “It was storming really bad and then, all of a sudden, they started hearing crashing and it sounded like a train. Trees just started coming down everywhere.“
One of the saddest stories coming out of this storm was in Thomson, where Saturday, a dying woman’s wish was supposed to come true.
From across the street, you can barely see this mobile home, covered by a massive tree, a result of Friday night’s devastating storm, trapping an elderly woman.
Turner: “My mom’s a cancer patient and she’s in hospice and they started to come and help them get out of the house. They got her to the hospital to get a check on her, and everything.“
The family had just come in from out of town, fulfilling his dying mother’s final wish.
Turner: “She wanted to be with the family for Easter, and we were originally supposed to do that, today. Now, because of all this, we aren’t going to be able to have it they way we wanted to.“
Easter was going to be celebrated in this room…
Turner: “The tree limbs came striaght through the ceiling, right there, onto the love seat, where my nephew and his mother were sitting.“
Although safe and sound now, Charles Turner’s family says it will be hard to move on.
Turner: “She’s going to have family there, today, so we’re going to try and work through this. We have to…it’s for her.“
McDuffie County crews are still on scene working throughout the area trying to get power restored and trees cut.
