Dump Truck Driver Killed In Traffic Accident

According to Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen, a dump truck driver delivering asphalt to a construction site on the 4200 block of Mike Padgett Highway was killed when he was hit as he got out of the truck. The victim is identified as William Danes, of the 1000 block of Highway 36 East, in Jackson Georgia.

Augusta, GA—According to Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen, a driver delivering asphalt to a construction site on the 4200 block of Mike Padgett Highway was killed when he was hit as he got out of the truck, early Thursday morning

The victim is identified as William Danes, of the 1000 block of Highway 36 East, in Jackson Georgia.

According to Bowen, Danes parked his dump truck in the northbound right through lane, which both northbound lanes were blocked for construction, and exited the vehicle. A white Chevrolet pickup traveling southbound in the left northbound lane struck Danes as he exited his dump truck. Danes was killed on impact.

Danes was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:40 a.m., Thursday morning.

Danes’ body has been sent to the GBI-Augusta Lab for an autopsy.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the driver of the white Chevrolet pickup. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup was charged by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Richmond County Jail.
