Dressing Rooms To Be Dressed Up At James Brown Arena

It’s the number one priority building improvement at the James Brown Arena, getting the locker rooms in shape. Officials say you can’t bring in first rate stars with second rate dressing rooms, but how will this help the ticket buying public? WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Augusta, GA—It’s where they go before they go on stage, the locker rooms in the James Brown Arena.

“It’s very important it’s the face of your building if you have a performer here the first thing they look at is being comfortable before they perform,” said Augusta Coliseum Authority member Joseph Collier, who once was on the road as part of James Brown’s band.

And, for officials at the James Brown Arena, the locker rooms are no place for performers to be comfortable. And, that makes them uncomfortable, they say bad dressing rooms cast the building in a bad light and say improving the locker rooms is the number one building improvement priority.

“The ticket buyer does benefit from this. If you think about it, if you have great and presentable locker rooms, you’re going to have great and big acts come through,” said General Manager Monty Jones.

The Augusta Coliseum Authority made the connection, approving the money for the locker room renovations. The cost is $150,000. The feeling is…in the entertainment world, if you’re going to compete, your locker rooms better be neat.

“Like Elton John was a huge success here, if he had a chance to come back and he went in there walked around a filthy place, or leaking pipes, things of that nature, there’s entirely too many places he can decide to play if he decides not to come here,” said Coliseum Authority member Hap Harris.
