Columbia County, GA—A 10-year old child from Columbia County has died from the flu.

Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins confirms Summer Rockefeller died early Saturday morning at an Atlanta hospital from complications of the flu, possibly swine flu. Collins says she was transferred to Atlanta, from MCG, on September 7th.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday.

Not only did Summer’s mom and dad lose their little girl, they also lost their jobs when they went to Atlanta to be near their daughter, who was fighting for her life. To make matters worse, hospital bills are soaring. We are told they are over $3 million.

Harlem Baptist Church will host a spaghetti dinner to raise money for the family. It will be held November 5th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

WJBF News Channel 6’s Mary Morrison spoke with the pastor’s assistant, Tuesday morning, and she tells us she hopes the entire community will be a part of this fundraising effort.

To donate, send your checks to: (Indicate on your check that the money is for the Rockefeller family)

Why was this child’s name released? What about HIPPA rules?  Or did the parents give permission?
