Augusta, GA—It was footage from a post-football game at the Academy Of Richmond County stadium, on September 11th, that cost a Richmond County school resource officer his badge.
James Holmon was fired after school officials say his conduct exceeded the legal authority given to him as a school officer.
Dr. Dana Bedden, richmond County School Superintendent: “The officer did not responded appropriately, as the evidence presents itself. Obviously, we were not there on site during the whole incident, but the camera provided significant insight to want was happening.“
The footage was taken by Officer Holmon’s body camera. School officers are required to have a camera above their chest. It is used to record officers actions just in case their actions need to be reviewed later.
Officials say he got into a verbal confrontation with a 14-year-old student. The student cursed at the officer and the rest is caught on tape.
According to school investigators, no criminal charges have been brought up against Officer Holmon.
Doctor Bedden says each officer goes through an evaluation every year and that this incident should not cause the entire Public Safety Department to be scrutinized.

Let us all recap the video.. The 14 yr old. said to the officer “I will punch you in the face”.. I think the boy got exactly what he deserved. We have too many “bad & unruly” teenagers in Augusta!! He got broken down like a man.. A child should know a child’s place!!! That means the parents got to stop being these children’s friend.. and become a parent!!!
He should not have been fired. A suspension would be fair. He shold not have told the kid he would “kill him”, but I cold understand his anger. The kid, and his parents should be embarassed from what I heard the child say on this tape. He got what he asked for.
I, for one, applaud the BOE Officer. The father of the child stated that the officer has an “Attitude problem…“ Lets not forget that it was the 14 yr. old child who threatened to “Punch his face in.“ Obviously, the child is the one with the REAL ATTITUDE PROBLEM. Hopefully, this child has learned a valuable lesson from the incident and from now on out he will mind his manners and not disrespect adults and his peers with verbal threats. In addition, I hope his parents have learned something from this as well…your child(ren) should be taught how to be a law abiding citizen at age 14 not a thug/convict.
thats the way 90% of all lawmen are! they are above the law. there should have been crimnal charges filed the day this video was reviewed. the family should also be seeking a atty. to sue the school.
as a tax payer i must tell you how discusted i am with the actions of this man that claimes to be an enforcer of the law . i don’t know who he thinks he might be but he broke the law the minut he touched that child , no matter that the child was wrong as well for cursing at the officer . but what do you expect when these children see this from someone who is supposed to be a role model . i am hopeful that this mans appeal will be denied . he should have thought about the consequences before his actions . the parents of the child should consider filing charges on the officer , for he did truly assault a minor, and should serve time for it . he knows the law he knows he was wrong.
